Trivia:
Death Wish takes place in Chicago, Illinois, as opposed to New York, to where the novel and original film took place.

The original film, Death Wish (1974), ended with the main character, Paul Kersey moving to Chicago, as well as the novel's sequel, Death Sentence, taking place in the same city too.

Initially, Liam Neeson, Russell Crowe, Matt Damon, Bruce Willis, Benicio Del Toro, Will Smith, and Brad Pitt were considered for the role of Paul Kersey however, Bruce Willis was chosen to star in the end.

Death Wish is the first film to be distributed by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer since Hot Tub Time Machine.

Initially conceived by Joe Carnahan in 2012, the film was set to star Liam Neeson and Frank Grillo. However, Carnahan withdrew from production when the studio preferred casting Bruce Willis in the role of Paul Kersey over Neeson.

Sylvester Stallone backed out after creative differences and went on to work on other projects.

After original writer and director Joe Carnahan left, director Gerardo Naranjo joined the project and was keen in casting Benicio Del Toro in the lead role. However, Del Toro was not cast and Naranjo eventually left the project.

The movie was wrapped in Chicago on Saturday, October 1, 2016.

Director Eli Roth was a huge fan of Dean Norris from "Breaking Bad," and at one point was going to get the second dog and name him after Norris character Hank Schraeder.

Eli Roth spent a lot of time with Chicago detectives to get the details of the police district correct.

In the film in the corner of an open murder, case board appears a card that says "We're gonna need a bigger board," a reference to the famous "Jaws" line "We're gonna need a bigger boat." This was something Roth actually saw on a board in the police captain's office.

After the debut of the film's first theatrical trailer, it popped criticism from left-wing journalists and film critics, with many criticizing the film as "alt-right" and "racist", due to the film's premise and setting.
