Trivia:
Mica Levi initially recorded a longer score for the film, but Jonathan Glazer ultimately opted to forego music for most of the movie. Instead, he relied on the sound design to convey the off-screen horrors unfolding in Auschwitz.

Director Jonathan Glazer employed up to five fixed cameras in the house and garden, with no visible crew, to capture many scenes. This approach left the actors unaware of whether they were being filmed in a close-up or wide shot, allowing them to be fully immersed in the scene. The actors appreciated working in such a realistic environment.

The constant revving of an unseen motorcycle engine, heard from a distance several times throughout the outdoor scenes, is a real-life detail. In the movie, Auschwitz commander Rudolf Höss hired someone specifically to rev the engine, intending to drown out the horror of screams and gunshots emanating from the camp.

On May 19, 2023, Sir Martin Amis, the author of the source novel, passed away, coinciding with the world premiere of the film at the Cannes Film Festival.

The film clinched the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival in 2023.

The title refers to the term used by the Third Reich to describe the 40 square kilometer area surrounding Auschwitz.

Director Jonathan Glazer makes his debut in non-English-language filmmaking with this project.

The United Kingdom officially submitted "The Oscars (2024)" for consideration in the Best International Feature Film category.

Sandra Hüller's pet dog portrays the family dog in the film.

Because of the unconventional multi-camera setup, Glazer and his team amassed over 800 hours of raw footage at the beginning of the editing process.
